Under the umbrella of the First Lady’s flagship program, She’s You, this initiative was launched on June 9, 2021, as a result of the Adolescent Engagement of the First Lady, during the President’s 2021 County Tour. Mrs. Weah shared her personal experience with the girls, about menstruation, the taboos surrounding the issue, menstrual hygiene and personal hygiene, distributed hygiene kits and inspired the girls to pursue their life dreams. 

The She’s You Menstrual and Personal Hygiene Initiative Main Objectives:

Break the silence on menstruation by sensitizing the beneficiaries, schools, churches, communities, and other stakeholders on menstruation by debunking taboos, myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation;

Increase the proportion of young girls who are engaging in sustainable, and proper menstruation hygiene management by using safe, hygienic, and disposable sanitary pads;

The She’s You Menstrual and Personal Hygiene Initiative Main Objectives:

Break the silence on menstruation by sensitizing the beneficiaries, schools, churches, communities, and other stakeholders on menstruation by debunking taboos, myths and misconceptions associated with menstruation;

 

Increase the proportion of young girls who are engaging in sustainable, and proper menstruation hygiene management by using safe, hygienic, and disposable sanitary pads. Improve access to sanitary pads through donations and affordable commercial options; Improve rates of readmission and retention of adolescents of school going age in schools and advocate for the integration of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) into school programs; Increase the self-esteem of adolescent girls on menstrual matters through open discussions and focused empowerment.

 

In January 2022, Mrs. Weah received the machine that will enable her through her foundation, to manufacture sanitary pads that will be distributed in the country.  The disposable pads will be manufactured in the premises of the City of Hope. 

The ultimate goal is for their businesses to stand on their own and also be in position to repay loans they may have taken from financial institutions and other creditors. The program is expected to augment GoL efforts in providing relief to vulnerable segment of our population. This is a Micro-Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) product aimed at providing concession loans and business management skills to market women and female entrepreneurs engaged in trade and other commercial activities.

 

Target Market: Liberian owned MSMEs owned and managed by Liberian women.
